MRI L-S SPINE

MRI L-S SPINE

MRI Lumbar Spine

MRI L-S Spine (Lumbar-Sacral Spine) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the lower spine, including the lumbar vertebrae (L1–L5), sacrum, coccyx, intervertebral discs, spinal cord, nerve roots, and surrounding soft tissues.

What Does This Test Measure?
No Radiation – Safe alternative to CT scans, especially for repeated imaging
High Soft Tissue Contrast – Excellent visualization of discs, nerves, ligaments, and spinal cord
Multi-Planar Imaging – Provides sagittal, axial, and coronal views for complete assessment
Contrast Option – Gadolinium may be used to enhance infections, tumors, or post-surgical changes
Why is This Test Recommended?
Persistent lower back pain lasting over 6 weeks that does not respond to physiotherapy or conservative treatment.
Shooting pain, numbness, or weakness radiating from the lower back into the legs due to nerve compression.
Sudden loss of bowel control, leg weakness, unexplained weight loss, history of cancer, or fever with spinal tenderness.
Essential for surgical planning to map herniated discs, stenosis, and nerve compression before discectomy or fusion.
Used to assess recurrent disc herniation, infection, or hardware complications after previous spinal surgery.
